Piedmont Poets

This is a program that PTO sponsors to encourage memorization and self-confidence in our Pre-K - 1st Grade students. We have parent volunteers come to the library at designated times to listen to students recite poems. This is a parent/child project, as teachers do not use classroom time to work on poems. Once a student has recited their first poem they will be recognized at Wildcat Wake Up. At the end of the year, the students that have memorized and recited correctly ten (or more) poems get a special field trip!

Pre K Requirements - Poems (or Nursery Rhymes) must be at least 30 words (shorter poems are allowed, but only count as half a poem).

Kindergarten and First Grade Requirements - Poems must be at least 55 words long (shorter poems are allowed, but only count as half a poem).

Talent Show

This year's talent show is scheduled for April 3, 2009. We will be having Stone Ridge students from each grade represented, so have your little performers start practicing now! Good news for everyone who tries out, we will find a place for you in in our show even if we can't include your act. Our coordinators have some great ideas and themes in mind for this year! We look forward to this becoming an annual Stone Ridge event.

Barefoot Bookworms

This is our summer reading program in conjunction with the Piedmont Public Library. Shortly before school lets out for the summer you will receive a note in your child's backpack. This note will provide the summer theme and the form to fill out for each book read. Each child that completes the program gets to attend a special ice cream party during school in September.

Also included in this program is a bookmark contest. Students are encouraged to design a bookmark in May. When school resumes, the winning bookmark is then given to anyone participating in the Barefoot Bookworms summer program. Reading lists need to be turned in by August 31.

Super Kids Day Activity

Super Kids/Track Day

Super Kids day is an end of school opportunity for our Pre-K - 2nd Grade students to participate in a half-day of "super" fun physical activities. Our PE teacher, Mr. Hatchett created activity stations containing a wide selection of games and challenges designed specifically for the target age group.

Stone Ridge's first annual Track Day last May was an overwhelming success. Once Again, Mr. Hatchett designed numerous events for our 3rd - 5th Grade students.

PTO was responsible for serving food and drinks for both events. Due to a generous donation, we were able to provide hotdogs and chips for the kids.

Helping Hands

Helping Hands is a group of volunteers who are willing to give approximately 2 hours one day a week to help our incredible, hard working teachers. Duties may include copying, sorting, laminating, die-cutting, etc...

Teachers truly appreciate this service and we enjoy giving a little of ourselves to help them.

Jordan's Caring Bridge Site

Support for Jordan

Jordan Hasley, one of our very own Stone Ridge students, was diagnosed with ALL (a form of leukemia) in June 2007. She will be starting second grade this fall. We applaud Jordan in her valiant fight against this disease. We want to provide awareness about leukemia, along with information about Jordan's progress.
